Types of Jinns

Allaah has created different types of jinn. Among them are some who can take on different forms, such as dogs and snakes; some who are like flying winds with wings; and some who can travel and rest. Abu Tha'labah al-Khushani said: "The Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: 'The jinn are of three types: a types that has wings, and they fly through the air; a type that looks like snakes and dogs; and a type that stops for a rest then resumes its journey."

Do Jinns Exist?

The Qur'aan and Sunnah indicate that the jinn exist, and that there is a purpose for their existence in this life, which is to worship Allaah Alone, with no partner or associate. Allaah says (interpretation of the meanings):

"And I (Allaah) created not the jinns and humans, except they should worship Me (Alone)." [al-Dhaariyaat 51:56].

"O assembly of jinns and mankind! Did there not come to you Messengers from amongst you, reciting unto you My Verses...?" [al-An'aam 6:130]

The world of the jinn is an independent and separate world, with its own distinct nature and features that are hidden from the world of humans. Jinns and humans have some things in common, such as the possession of understanding and the choice between the way of good and the way of evil. The word jinn comes from an Arabic root meaning "hidden from sight". Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

"...Verily he [Shaytaan] and his qabeeluhu [his soldiers from the jinn or his tribe] see you from where you cannot see them..." [al-A'raaf 7:27]

Allaah has told us in His Book the essence from which the jinn were created. He says (interpretation of the meaning):

"And the jinn, We created aforetime from the smokeless flame o fire." [al-Hijr 15:27]

"And the jinns did He create from a smokeless flame of fire." [al-Rahmaan 55:15].

According to a hadeeth narrated by 'Aa'ishah, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: "The angels were created from light, the jinn were created from fire, and Aadam was created from that which has been described to you." (Reported by Muslim, 5314).

Easy way to change ourselves

There was a king long time ago and he had a vast kingdom. Though he had tremendous amount of wealth, but he didn't have peace of heart. So he decided to be a good Muslim. He heard that there is a very pious man who stays in a jungle and that many people go to visit him for advice. The king decided to visit him for some advice also. When he got there, he asked the pious man "How can I become pious like you?" The pious man replied that remember death 40 times a day for 40 days. The king thought that it was very easy and he thanked him and left for his palace. He remembered death 40 times a day for 40 days but no change came to his life. He was same as before.

The king became angry and called that pious man to his court. The king told him that he is nothing but a liar and that he should be killed before he fools other people. It was decided that he will be beheaded the next day. But the Pious man had a request. He asked if he could become the king for a day. He promised that after getting the command, he will not kill the previous king or do any harm to him. So, the king agreed and made the pious man the king for a day. As soon as the pious man became the king, he went to the market and saw a man selling peanuts. He told the soldiers to catch that man and bring him to the palace. So, the peanut sales man was brought to the court. The pious man told the peanut sales man that he will be killed tomorrow. The peanut sales man became frightened and dropped all his peanuts. He started crying and asked what he did. But the pious man said that he will be killed tomorrow and locked up in jail for today.

Now, as the peanut sales man knew that he is going to die, he forgot about everything else and started asking forgiveness from Allah. He started praying and doing excessive dhikir (remembrance of Allah). The Pious man ordered that the most beautiful prostitute in the city should be brought and placed in the jail with peanut sales man. She was brought and she asked the man to commit adultery with her. Now the pious man brought the previous king and told him to watch. The peanut sales man started yelling at the woman to get away because he is going to die tomorrow and this evil deed will surely cause him problems with Allah.

Then the pious man asked the previous king if he understood what is going on. The Pious man explained that when you really know that you will die, then you will surely stay away from all evil deeds and engage yourself into the worship of Allah. So, remembering death once properly would be enough to change the life of a human being.

Ofcourse, the peanut sales man was released afterwards.

Starting the Prayer by saying Takbir Tahrimah

Transliteration: Alla-hu Akbar

Translation: Allah is the greatest


Dua Al-Istiftah (Supplication of Starting) Recited only in the first Rakath
Transliteration: Subhana Kal-lah hum-ma wabi hamdika wata-bara kasmuka wata'ala jad-duka wala ilaha ghyruka.
Translation: Glory be to you, O Allah, and all praises are due unto you, and blessed is your name and high is your majesty and none is worthy of worship but you.

Next recitation is called Ta'awwuz (Also recited only in the first Rakath)
Transliteration: A'uzu bil-lahi minash Shayta-nir-rajeem
Translation: I seek Allah's protection from Satan who is accursed.


After this, recite the Tasmiah (Should be recited in every Rakath before starting a Surah)
Transliteration: Bismillah hir-Rahma nir-Raheem
Translation: In the name of Allah, the most Kind and the most Merciful.


Surah Fatiha (Recited in every Rakath, very important to memorize)
Transliteration:
Alhamdul lil-lahi rab-bil 'alameen
Ar rahma nir-raheem
Maliki yawmid-deen
Iyyaka na'budu wa iyyaka nasta'een
Ihdinas siratal mustaqeem
Siratal Lazeena an'amta 'alayhim
Ghai-ril maghdubi 'alayhim
Walad dal-leen. Ameen
Translation:
Praise is only for Allah, Lord of the Universe.
The most Kind, the most Merciful.
The master of the Day of Judgement.
You alone we worship and to you alone we pray for help.
Show us the straight way,
The way of those whom you have blessed.
Who have not deserved your anger,
Nor gone astray.

After Surah Fatiha - recite any Surah from the Quran. Please note that the surah recited in the first rakath should be longer than the one recited in the second rakath. To listen to more surahs, visit IslamWay Quran Section
We have used Surah Ikhlas as an example
Transliteration:
Qul huwal lahu ahad.
Allah hus-Samad.
Lam yalid walam yulad.
Walam yakul-lahu Kufuwan ahad.
Translation:
Say: He is Allah, the only one.
Allah helps and does not need help.
He does not produce a child, and He was not born of anyone.
There is no one equal to Him.

Supplication in Ruku (Vowing)
Recite Alla-hu Akbar (Listen) before going to Ruku. While in Ruku, recite the following supplication 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 or more times. Make it an odd number.
Transliteration: Sub-hana Rabbi-al 'ajeem.
Translation: Glory to my Lord the Exalted.


Qawmah (Standing After Ruku)
Transliteration: Sami 'allah hu liman hamida. Rab-bana lakal hamd.
Translation: Verily Allah listens to one who praises Him. Oh our Lord, all praises be to you.

First Sajdah (Prostration)
Before going to the Sajdah, recite Alla-hu Akbar (Listen). While in Sajdah, recite the following supplication 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 or more times. Make it an odd number.
Transliteration: Sub-hana Rabbi yal a'la
Translation: Oh Allah, glory be to you, the most High.

Jalsah (Sitting between two Sajdah)
To rise and sit from the first Sajdah, recite Alla-hu Akbar (Listen). Sit for a short while and recite the following:
Transliteration: Allah hum maghfirlee war-ham nee
Translation: Oh Allah, forgive me, and have mercy on me


Second Sajdah
Recite Alla-hu Akbar (Listen) before going to the secind Sajdah from Jalsah.
Recite the same supplication as the first Sajdah (Listen).

Before starting second rakath, say Alla-hu Akbar while standing up. Now, you have completed one Rakath. Then recite Tasmiah and Surah Fatiha. After Fatiha, recite tasmiah and another surah and proceed to Ruku by saying Alla-hu Akbar. Carry on the acts till the second Sajdah. After second Sajdah, say Alla-hu Akbar, but sit down for reciting Tashahud, Darud and some supplications before finishing the prayer with salam.
Tashahud
Transliteration:
At-tahiy-yatu lil-lahi was sala-watu wat-tay yibatu
As-salamu 'alayka ay-yuhan-nabiy-yu
wa rahma tullahi wa bara-katuhu
As-salamu 'alayna wa'ala 'ibadil-la his-sali-heen
Ash hadu al-la ilaha il-lal lahu
wa ash hadu an-na Muhammadan
'ab-duhu wa rasuluh.
Translation:
All compliments, all physical prayer,
and all monitary worship are for Allah.
Peace be upon you, Oh Prophet,
and Allah's mercy and blesings.
Peace be on us and on all righteous slaves of Allah.
I bear witness that no one is worthy of worship except Allah
And I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

If you are offering 3 Rakath of salah (as in Maghrib), then after Tashahud in second Rakath, you say Alla-hu Akbar and stand up. Then you recite Tasmiah, Fatiha and other supplications. Note that a surah after Fatiha is only recited in the first two rakaths. Carry on till second Sajdah in the normal manner and sit for second Tashahud in the third Rakath. After that, you are to recite the following three supplications and finish the prayer. If you are offering 4 Rakath of salah, then don't sit for Tashahud in the third Rakath. Simply stand up after second Sajdah in the third rakath by saying Alla-hu Akbar. Carry on till second sajdah and sit for Tashahud in the fourth Rakath. Recite the following three supplications to finish the prayer.
Salat Alan-Nabi (Darud) - Salutation to the Prophet
Transliteration:
Allah humma sal-li 'ala Muhammadin
wa 'ala ali Muhammadin,
Kama sal-layta 'ala Ibraheema
Wa'ala ali Ibraheema
innaka Hameedum Majeed
Allah humma barik 'ala Muhammadin
wa 'ala ali Muhammadin,
Kama barakta 'ala Ibraheema
Wa 'ala ali Ibraheema
innaka Hameedum Majeed.
Translation:
Oh Allah, send grace and honour on Muhammad and
On the family and true followers of Muhammad
just as you sent Grace and Honour on Ibrahim
and on the family and true followers of Ibrahim
Surely, you are praiseworthy, the Great.
Oh Allah, send your blessing on Muhammad and
the true followers of Muhammad, just
as you sent blessings on Ibrahim
and his true followers
Surely, you are praiseworthy, the Great.
After Salat Alan-Nabi, recite the following:
Transliteration:
Rab bij'alnee muqeemas salati wa min
zur-riy yatee rab-bana wata qab-bal du'a,
rab-ba nagh-firlee wali waliday-ya
wa lil mu-mineena yawma yaqumul hisab.
Translation:
Oh Lord, make me and my children keep up prayers,
Our Lord, accept our prayer,
Our Lord, forgive me and my parents
and all the Believers on the Day of Judgement.
Now, it's time to finish the prayer by saying Salam. Look towards your right shoulder and say it once then look towards your left shoulder and say it once again. Then you are done!
Transliteration:
As-salamu 'alaykum wa rah-matul lah
Translation:
Peace be on you and the mercy of Allah.

Dua Qunut (to be recited in Witr Prayer)
Transliteration:
Allah hum mahdinee feeman hadayta,
Wa 'afinee feeman 'afayta,
wata wal-lane feeman twal-layta
wa barik lee feema a'taita,
waqinee shar-ra ma qadayta,
fa-innaka taqdee wala yuqda 'alayk,
innahu laa Yazil-lu man walayt,
wala ya'iz-zu man 'adaita,
tabarakta rabbana wata 'alaita,
nastaghfiruka wanatubu ilayka,
Wa sal-lal lahu alan-nabee.
Translation:
Oh Allah, make me among those whom You have guided,
and make me among those whom You have saved, and make
me among those whom You have chosen, and bless whatever
you have given me, and protect me from the evil which you have decreed; verily, You decide the things and nobody can decide against You; and none whom You have committed to Your care shall be humiliated and none whom You have taken as an enemy shall taste glory. You are blessed, our Lord, and Exalted, we ask for Your forgiveness and turn to You. Peace and mercy of Allah be upon the Prophet.

Transliteration:
Allah humma inna nast'eenuka wa nastaghfiruka wa nu'minu bika wa natawak-kalu 'alayka wa nuthne 'alayk-al khayr. Wa nashkuruka wa laaa nakfuruka wa nakhla'u wa natruku man-y yafjuruka. Allah humma iyyaka na'budu wa laka nusal-lee wa nasjudu wa ilayka nas'a wa nahfidu wa narju rahmataka wa nakhsha 'azabaka inna 'azabaka bil kuf-fari mulhiq.
Translation:
Oh Allah, we ask you for help and seek your forgiveness, and we believe in You and have trust in You, and we praise you in the best way and we thank You and we are not ungrateful to you, and we forsake and turn away from the one who disobeys you. O Allah, we worship You only and pray to You and prostrate ourselves before You, and we run towards You and serve You, and we hope to receive your mercy, and we fear your punishment. Surely, the disbelievers will receive your punishement.

A Thousand Camels

In the times of Umar (Radiallahu Anhu) there was a severe famine. All the people of Madinah were suffering due to the shortage of food. A caravan made up of a thousand camels loaded with a large stock of food grains belonging to Uthman (Radiallahu Anhu) arrived from Shaam (Syria). Several merchants offered to buy all of it. He asked them what profit they would pay. "Five per cent," they said. He answered that he could get higher profit than that. They began to argue with him, saying that they did not know of any merchant who would offer him more than their quote. He said to them, "I know of one who repays a profit of more than seven hundred to a dirham (Arabian currency)." He then recited the verse of the Noble Quran in which Allah Ta'ala mentioned this profit. "The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the Way of Allah, is as the likeness of a grain (of corn); it grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. Allah gives manifold increase to whom He pleases. And Allah is All-Sufficient for His creatures' needs, All-Knower." (2:261).

"O traders! Bear witness with me that I donate all this to the poor people of Madinah!" said Uthman (Radiallahu Anhu).

Hachiko, the Faithful Dog

In 1934, a bronze statue of a dog called Hachiko was erected at the Shibuya Train station in Tokyo, Japan. The story of this dog is mentioned below.

Hachiko was born in 1923 and was owned by Eisaburo Ueno, a professor in the agriculture department at the University of Tokyo. The professor used to take a train from the Shibuya Station every day to go to the university. Each day Hachiko accompanied the professor to the train station when he left for work. Upon returning, the professor would find the dog patiently waiting for his master and wagging its tail. This happy routine continued until one fateful day in 1925, when the professor was taken ill on the job and unfortunately died before he could return home. As usual, the dog waited at the train station that day for his master to return back. However, seeing that he wasn't coming back, Hachiko waited till night fell and retuned back home. The next day Hachiko went back to the train station again, waiting for his master to come back. He patiently waited till sunset and then retuned back home. The dog was so devoted to the professor that he continued to visit the train station everyday for the next 10 years! The people who passed the loyal dog each day were so touched by his story that they erected a statue in his honor in 1934.

In 1935, Hachiko died at the very same spot where he used to wait for his master.

Dear readers, we should take a lesson from this story for ourselves. By reciting the kalimah of Tawheed, all of us have taken an oath to be loyal to our Master, Allah Ta'ala. Now, we should look deep into ourselves and check to see how much love we really have for Allah in our hearts.

The Emperor and the Seed

An emperor in the Far East was growing old and knew it was time to choose his successor. Instead of choosing one of his assistants or his children, he decided something different. He called young people in the kingdom together one day. He said, "It is time for me to step down and choose the next emperor. I have decided to choose one of you."

The kids were shocked! But the emperor continued. "I am going to give each one of you a seed today. One very special seed. I want you to plant the seed, water it and come back here one year from today with what you have grown from this one seed. I will then judge the plants that you bring, and the one I choose will be the next emperor!"

One boy named Ling was there that day and he, like the others, received a seed. He went home and excitedly told his mother the story. She helped him get a pot and planting soil, and he planted the seed and watered it carefully. Every day he would water it and watch to see if it had grown. After about three weeks, some of the other youths began to talk about their seeds and the plants that were beginning to grow.

Ling kept checking his seed, but nothing ever grew. Three weeks, 4 weeks, 5 weeks went by. Still nothing. By now, others were talking about their plants but Ling didn't have a plant, and he felt like a failure. Six months went by-still nothing in Ling's pot. He just knew he had killed his seed.

Everyone else had trees and tall plants, but he had nothing. Ling didn't say anything to his friends, however. He just kept waiting for his seed to grow.

A year finally went by and all the youths of the kingdom brought their plants to the emperor for inspection. Ling told his mother that he wasn't going to take an empty pot. But honest about what happened, Ling felt sick to his stomach, but he knew his mother was right. He took his empty pot to the palace. When Ling arrived, he was amazed at the variety of plants grown by the other youths. They were beautiful-in all shapes and sizes. Ling put his empty pot on the floor and many of the other kinds laughed at him. A few felt sorry for him and just said, "Hey nice try."

When the emperor arrived, he surveyed the room and greeted the young people. Ling just tried to hide in the back. "My, what great plants, trees and flowers you have grown," said the emperor. "Today, one of you will be appointed the next emperor!" All of a sudden, the emperor spotted Ling at the back of the room with his empty pot. He ordered his guards to bring him to the front. Ling was terrified. "The emperor knows I'm a failure! Maybe he will have me killed!"

When Ling got to the front, the Emperor asked his name. "My name is Ling," he replied. All the kids were laughing and making fun of him. The emperor asked everyone to quiet down. He looked at Ling, and then announced to the crowd, "Behold your new emperor! His name is Ling!" Ling couldn't believe it. Ling couldn't even grow his seed. How could he be the new emperor? Then the emperor said, "One year ago today, I gave everyone here a seed. I told you to take the seed, plant it, water it, and bring it back to me today. But I gave you all boiled seeds which would not grow. All of you, except Ling, have brought me trees and plants and flowers. When you found that the seed would not grow, you substituted another seed for the one I gave you. Ling was the only one with the courage and honesty to bring me a pot with my seed in it. Therefore, he is the one who will be the new emperor!"

The Prophet taught, "Truthfulness leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to Paradise. And a man keeps on telling the truth until he becomes a truthful person. Falsehood leads to Al-Fajur (i.e. wickedness, evil-doing), and Al-Fajur (wickedness) leads to the (Hell) Fire, and a man may keep on telling lies till he is written before Allah, a liar." [Sahih al-Bukhari, Vol. 8:116]

Small stories

The Patient Old Man

When passing through a mountain pass, a bedouin (villager) once came across an old man who was blind and who seemed to be afflicted with various ailments all over his body. It was clear that he was wasting away. He was even paralyzed and was constantly forced to remain in a seated position. The Bedouin could clearly hear him say, "All praise is for Allah, Who has kept me safe from ailments with which He has tested many among His creation; and He has indeed preferred me over many among those that He created."

"My brother!" exclaimed the bedouin. "What have you been saved from? By Allah, I think that you have been afflicted with every single kind of ailment!"

"Go away from me," said the old man, as he raised his head. "Do I not still have a tongue with which I can pronounce His Oneness, and with which I can remember Him every single moment? And do I not still have a heart with which I can know Him?"

These words of the old man were enough for the bedouin to repent to Allah for his sins and ask Him for forgiveness.

Remember, there is always someone else who is in more problem than you.

അല്ലാഹു മുസ്ലിമിന്റെ മാത്രം ദൈവമല്ല

അല്ലാഹുവിനെ മുസ്ലിമിന്റെ മാത്രം ദൈവമായിട്ടല്ല ഖുര്‍ആന്‍ പരിചയപ്പെടുത്തുന്നത്. മറിച്ച്, മനുഷ്യന്റെ ദൈവമായിട്ടാണ്. ചില സൂക്തങ്ങള്‍ നോക്കുക: 'ഓ ജനങ്ങളേ, ഒരൊറ്റ ആത്മാവില്‍ നിന്ന് നിങ്ങളെ സൃഷ്ടിക്കുകയും അതിന്റെ ഇണയെയും അതില്‍ നിന്ന്തന്നെ ഉണ്ടാക്കുകയും അവ രണ്ടില്‍ നിന്നുമായി ധാരാളം സ്ത്രീ-പുരുഷന്മാരെ

അഇസ്ലാമിക വീക്ഷണത്തില്‍ ദൈവം ഏകനും അരൂപിയും അദൃശ്യനും അനാദിയും അനന്ത്യനുമാണ്. പക്ഷെ, ദൈവാവതാരങ്ങളായി വന്നവര്‍ക്കെല്ലാം ആദിയും അന്ത്യവുമുണ്ട്. അവരുടെ ജനനവും മരണവുമെല്ലാം സര്‍വരാലും അറിയപ്പെടുന്നു. അവര്‍ക്ക് പരിധികളും പരിമിതികളുമുണ്ട്. അതിനാല്‍ അവതാര സങ്കല്‍പം നിരര്‍ത്ഥകമാണെന്ന് ഇസ്ലാമിക ദര്‍ശനം പഠിപ്പിക്കുന്നു. പ്രബഞ്ചത്തിലുള്ളതെല്ലാം ദൈവത്തിന്റെ സൃഷ്ടികളാണ്; ആള്‍ ദൈവങ്ങളെന്നവകാശപ്പെടുന്നവരടക്കം. അവര്‍ക്ക് സ്വന്തമായി സൃഷ്ടികര്‍മം നടത്തുവാനോ സംഹരിക്കുവാനോ സാധ്യമല്ല തന്നെ. സകലതിനും കഴിവുള്ളവന്‍ പ്രബഞ്ച സൃഷ്ടാവായ അല്ലാഹു മാത്രമാകുന്നു.

അവനെ മാത്രം വിശ്വസിക്കുവാനും ആരാധിക്കുവാനുമാണ് ഖുര്‍ആന്‍ ഫറയുന്നത്. അല്ലാഹുവോട് ആരെയും പങ്ക് ചേര്‍ക്കരുതെന്ന് ഖുര്‍ആന്‍ പറയുന്നു. ചില സൂക്തങ്ങള്‍ കാണുക:
(നബിയേ, താങ്കള്‍ അവരോട്) ചോദിക്കുക: നിങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് ഉപകാരമോ ഉപദ്രവമോ ചെയ്യാന്‍ കഴിവില്ലാത്ത വസ്തുക്കളെയാണോ നിങ്ങള്‍ ആരാധിക്കുന്നത്? അല്ലാഹുവാകട്ടെ സകലതും കേള്‍ക്കുന്നവനും സര്‍വജ്ഞനുമാകുന്നു. (5:76)
യാതൊന്നും സൃഷ്ടിക്കാത്തവരെയാണോ അവര്‍ (അല്ലാഹുവിന്റെ) പങ്കാളികളാക്കുന്നത്? അവരാകട്ടെ സൃഷ്ടിച്ചുണ്ടാക്കപ്പെടുന്നവരുമാണ്. (7:191)

(നബിയേ,) താങ്കള്‍ പറയുക: ഞാന്‍ നിങ്ങളെ പ്പോലുള്ള ഒരു മനുഷ്യന്‍ മാത്രമാകുന്നു. നിങ്ങളുടെ ദൈവം ഏകദൈവമാണെന്ന് എനിക്ക് ബോധനം നല്‍കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. അതിനാല്‍, തന്റെ നാഥനുമായി കണ്ടുമുട്ടണമെന്നാഗ്രഹിക്കുന്നവന്‍ സല്‍കര്‍മമാചരിക്കുകയും തന്റെ നാഥനുള്ള ആരാധനയില്‍ യാതൊന്നിനെയും പങ്കുചേര്‍ക്കാതിരിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു കൊള്ളട്ടെ (18:110)
